Rotary International President: Wilfrid J. Wilkinson, Trenton, Ontario, Canada.BIG STORY #1 THIS WEEK John Schwandke named Honorary Paul Harris Fellow Since joining Rotary in 1988 at Washington, Iowa, (he transferred his membership to Muscatine in 1992) John has become a true Rotarian. He's a local boy who moved around a little after graduating from MHS in 1960, but came home with his wife Darlene to purchase KWPC. John's work - with the steadfast support of Darlene - has brought Muscatine Rotary and Xcotapec close. He's also brought several new members to Rotary. Congratulations, John! Interact Fundraiser Rotary Interact Students from Muscatine High School are trying to raise money for their projects though yard work. If you have a yard to mow etc., and need a little help, Interact will pitch in and help for $40 per yard. They're available on November 9, 10,11, 17 and 18. They'll work from 9 until noon and from one until three. Call Serena Everhart at 563-260-1430 to learn more. LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM: Chris McGinnis, Director, Muscatine Humane Society, came and told us how it operates, what it does, and how you can adopt an animal. Our humane society operates a fantastic facility that was donated by Nancy Kent. By the way, about 85% of the dogs at the Humane Society are purebreds. Before dogs are put up for adoption, they take a behavior test to see if they will get along with children, old people, the trash hauler, etc. They take all comers at the Humane Society. Some animals that are very sick or viscious have to be put down, though. But this is the exception to the rule. TODAY'S PROGRAM Saul Solomon, Chairman, CEO and President of Bridgestone Bandag, LLC, will tell us what is going on and what to expect. Happy News Diana Gradert - happy to tell about more great news from the Beaver Nation: the football team went to playoffs and the the track team boasts that the boys took second place and the girls took 6th. Dave Utley - was happy that there is something called a second half and a second overtime. Paul Kraushaar - was proud to tell everybody that Muskie Football was off to the playoffs - they were facing Assumption at Brady Street Stadium. John Stevens - had a dollar for the second half and two dollars for the overtime. Norm Smith - had a buck for the Illini and for the Interact girls. He wants them to help recruit exchange students. Brightener Teacher: If you had one dollar and you asked your father for another, how many dollars would you have? Vincent: One dollar. Teacher: (sadly) You don't know your arithmetic. Vincent: (even more sadly) You don't know my father. |
