Today's Program: Hoover Presidential Library:  What's Happening

 

 

In Case You Missed It

Monday's presentation was given by Christie Vilsack on the Iowa Initiative.  This initiative is to improve women's access to birth control services and women's health care in Iowa.  Over 50% of pregnancies in Iowa are unintended for women ages 18-30.  While most people tend to focus on teen pregnancy research is showing that across the state teen pregnancy is decreasing.  For women ages 18-30 an unintended pregnancy can dramatically change the direction of her career and goals.  Because Iowa ranks 48th in our country for access to family planning services, this causes more challenges for women.  By improving access to family planning services and birth control, women will be able to better plan their pregnancies on their timetables.  Christie encouraged all of us to begin to talk about this issue and what is means for our community, Iowa, and society.  To learn more visit www.iowaInitiative.org.

  • Congratulations Jeanie Stanley for receiving a Sustaining Paul Harris Fellow Sapphire pin.  Thank you for all that you do to support Rotary!
  • October 30th 4:30 p.m. join Rotary at Wine Nuts for a social gathering.  All are welcome to attend and experience a new venue and visit with fellow Rotarians.
  • MHS Interact Club will be raking leaves and cleaning up yards for $40.  This money will be used to benefit the Clubs efforts.  To learn more about this opportunity please contact Emilie Sloat at muscatine_interact@hotmail.com

  • Craig Bode expressed his gratitude for those who have volunteered to schedule programming for one month.  A few months still need someone, if you are interested please speak to Craig.
  • Kip Fisher is proud of Iowa State's win!
  • Dave Utley-Go Hawks!
  • Keith Porter-Muscatine Marching Band received a division one rating, congrats to MHS!
  • Bret Olson invited everyone to attend "Fit Over 50" program at the Y on Thursday, October 29th.  Demonstrations on exercise techniques, Dietician Nancy Dew, and much more health related information will be available.
  • Jim Stein-Congratulated Gail Roberts for a professional engineering award she just received.
  • Gail Roberts-Shared a little more information about the award and thanked Rotary for the support.
  • Dave Stanley-Go Hawks!  He also challenged everyone to put a dollar on the table for the Hawks being undefeated.
  • Roger Lande-Go Hawks.  Roger had recently attended a World Food Prize Conference in Des Moines and was proud to see many of the leaders of large companies are being led by women.
  • Mike Ruby-Recently volunteered at Loaves and Fishes and saw the refrigerator with the Rotary logo on it that our club had given many years ago.  We do make a difference in our community and the world.
