Today's Program: Pennies For Peace
In Case You Missed It
Monday's presentation was given by
Kent Sissel on black history and Alexander Clark. Originally born in Washington, Pennsylvania,
Alexander moved to Muscatine to be near some of his family's friends that lived
in the Muscatine area. Muscatine is rich in history as many know, but
you might be surprised to know how much Muscatine has influenced civil rights
across the Country. The first city in
the U.S. to desegregate public schools was Muscatine. This was due to Alexander Clark's fight to
allow his daughter to attend public school.
This is just one of the impacts that Alexander Clark had on Muscatine
and the U.S. Alexander fought for equal
rights and integration for all people.
Kent has spent a great deal of time researching and reading others
research of Alexander, as well as, preserving the house he once lived in.
