Program for September 29, 2014: The Value of Your Rotary Membership

Invocation by: Rick Gosney

Guests today:  Michelle Kurz, guest of Judi Holdorf and Bobbie Holliday, guest of Charlie Lewis.

Happy News: Tony Joseph is proud of the Eagles and their survival at the Redskin's game! Ron Yohe is happy to have attended his 55th High School Class Reunion. Judi Holdorf reminded us of the need for cart drivers on the 18th of October and encouraged signing up. She also reported on the success of the Operation Warm Coat Drive... $20 per member provides a warm coat for someone in our community this winter!

Tony Joseph discussed with the club the proposed new invoice and indicated that there would be further discussion next week.

Program: Jennifer De Fosse and Millie Morris provided an informative program on the local Farmers Market.  Two locations and two different days are the site of the Market. Tuesdays the Market is at Calvary just off the bypass and goes from 2:30 - 5:30 pm. and Saturdays the market is across from City Hall in the parking lot from 7:30-11:30 am.  The idea behind a Farmers Market is knowing your Farmer and you will know your Food. You will have more choices and more information.  Food has changed more in the past 50 years than in the last 1000.

Grocery store food usually travels over 1200 miles while market food is probably about 50 miles.  Farmers grow their food to be in control of the growing techniques and to put more nutrition into the produce.  The local markets want to be destinations for social interaction and provide good fun for our community.
