In Case You Missed It

Rachel Litwiller talked about the District Conference April 23-25, 2010.  This will be a family-friendly event and will also celebrate women in Rotary.  20 years 1989.  Charley Witlack, the only Iowan to reach the peak of Mt. Everest,  Alex Buchanan, and possibly Christie Vilsack.  Pzaaa in Burlington is the location.

 

District Governor Cal then introduced Becky Etting from Bettendorf as Assistant Governor and Jim Stein as Past Assistant Governor with Mike Ruby as Membership Chair for the District.

Cal asked each of us "Why Are You A Rotarian?"  He talked about the qualities of a good Rotarian that includes people of a certain caliber with good character and morals.  Those who are honest with integrity and believe in being ethical.  He also talked about being a TEAM "Together Each Accomplishes More.

 

Cal talked about helping those less privileged and thanked Don Johnson and Norm Smith for being on the World Community Service Committee.   How we are almost there eradicating polio, however we need to finish.   He also reported the monies that had been raised by our club and District 6000 for the various funds.

Throughout his speech he asked "Why Are We Rotarians?" He challenged each one of us with "To the World You Might Be one Person, But to that one person you might be the world.  "What will you do today to make a difference tomorrow."

September 21st Club Announcements

  • Charley Lewis announced Cynthia Maeglin has achieved a 5 sapphire lapel pin. 
  • Second reading for membership: Jennifer Conner of Bickford Cottage.  Jennifer is sponsored by Ron Yohe.  If you have any concerns about this potential member please speak with a Board Member.
  • There will not be any more morning make up meetings this fall.
  • Craig Bode needs you! Craig is the new chair for programs and he is looking for monthly program chairs, if you are interested please see him at the meeting or email him at craig.bode@rockvalleypt.com.

 

Happy News

Tim Nelson thanked everyone for attending the third annual picnic.

 Marilyn Smith was happy about the scrapbook and photos that were there for viewing.

Scott Natvig was sorry to announce that Norman Borlaug, his relative, had passed however happy that he was able to save millions from hunger.

Roger Lande was happy all 3 Iowa teams won.

Payton Joseph Stein was announced as Jim's 5th grandchild

Bill Phelan announced Muscafuda.

Mike Ruby announced his first grandchild born August 22nd, Landon Walker

Dick Stanley announced that Robert Fowler, Ambassador from Canada, and his assistant and driver have been released from captors. 

Kip Fisher was happy with Iowa State's win and John Stevens donated for Iowa's win.
