THE BIG STORY: Diana Reed, our District Governor will be coming to Muscatine October 1, 2007. This should be a great meeting.
THE OTHER BIG STORY:
Mike Ruby has been travelling and learning about Rotary. He brought us the following meatballs of wisdom:
* The United States, Japan and India have the largest Rotary memberships.
* Although Rotary is growing globally, membership in the U.S. is declining.
* 30% of American Rotarians are 50 - 59 years old.
* A recent survey of younger Americans revealed they believe Rotary is "old, white, male, elitist, and not relevant."
* A new classification: "community volunteer".

September 24 Max Churchill will be the guest speaker. He will be talking about the High Bridge Commission and plans to show some pictures of its construction.
LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM:
Sara Fitzer-Huston told us about the local activities of the American Red Cross and recounted a tale of their own disaster. The Red Cross office was hit by the tornado earlier this year. Our local office is the Muscatine-Louisa Unit. The Red Cross has four main areas of activity: Health and Safety (first aid training etc.), Biomedical (blood collection), Armed Forces Emergency Services, and Emergency Services (disaster relief). Sarah talked to the club about the need for individual disaster plans.
