Program for October 7, 2013: Crossroads with Brandon Buster

Invocation by

Guests: 3.0 Seniors Thomas Stackhouse, Lindsay York, Austin Moss and Karey Hawkins. Friends and Guests: Jack May, Shelley Maharry and Brandon Buster.

Fun with Judy! Not Judge Judy but Community Foundation Judy.  A Pie Recipe was read and the Rotarians had to guess the kind of pie from the ingredients. Winners got a ticket to the Pie Tasting at the Foundation on October 6, 2013 from 2:30-5:00 PM  at Pearl Plaza!!

Happy News: Mike Ruby emphasized the importance of the upcoming CROP Walk and asked for contributions from Rotarians if they wish to support the local work.  All funds raised will be matched by the New Hope Foundation.

Jerry Riibe's name was read for a second time as a potential new member.

Rotary Program: Joni Axel provided an update on the Blue Zone Initiative in Muscatine. We were named a demonstration site in January of 2013.  The effort is to create a healthier state of Iowa.  Funds have been provided by Wellmark  for the next 5 years to impact the health of Iowans to the tune of $5 million.

The initiative works with you and me, local schools, local restaurants, city government, grocery stores like HyVee and Fareway and worksites to promote the Power 9 of Well Being including Wine at 5, Downshift, Plant slant, living with a purpose, Family First, Moving Naturally, Like Tribe and Belonging to a faith based connection.  We all need to sign up and implement some aspect of the Power 9 in our lives, no matter how small.

Engagement is another aspect and is carried out through Rotary, Church, volunteering, walking in a Moai, planting a community garden or using our great local trails.

There will be a Living with Purpose Workshop at MCC on Saturday, October 12 from 10-12.  Persons interested in more details may contact Joni Axel, Sara Fitzer Huston or Andrew Anderson at the Pearl Plaza Office.
