Program for Today: Rotary District Governor Don Patterson..Updates Around District 6000

Guests October 17th: Deb Iliff, Norma Lewis, Sandy Bean, Mike Johannsen, Dick Yerington, Shane Orr, Emily Conn prospective new member, and Jessica Ingstad.

 

November 7th, Monday, will be replaced by guest night at the Art Center from 5:30-7:00 P.M.

Members need to sign up at the sheet in the back. Barb Christensen and Sara Ingstad stumped us with the Civil War questions we did not know... we will try again this week....

 

Mary Wildermuth informed the club of June Rigler's Memorial Celebration on Sunday, October 23rd at 2:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church.

 

Taura Prosek in her Rotary moment shared the wealth of information available to us at our Rotary website of which she highlighted the 6 areas of service: Community Projects, Peace, Disease Prevention, Water Safety, Maternal and Child Health, Literacy and Economic Development.

 

Community Projects Committee including: Bill Phelan, Sarah Lande, Judi Holdorf and Mike Hagerty presented the Sunset Park Afterschool Program with $850 for a computer. Kids First Committee accepting the check were: Shane Orr, Mike Johannsen, Rose Mary Bosen, and Dick Yerington.

 

Scott Ingstad was presented his Paul Harris Sustaining Fellow pin by Chris and Sara Instad. Scott has been very active in the community including being the President and CEO of First National Bank, Rotary Board of Directors, Roy J.Carver Charitable Trust Board, Faith United Church of Christ Director, GMCC Past President, United Way Board and Community Y Endowment Committee.

 

Scott was then accompanied by his wife, Jessica who pinned him with his second pin of the day and a second honor and first for the Muscatine Rotary Club...Honorary Paul Harris Award. Kudos to you Scott, a great honor and well deserved!!

 

Program for today: Paul Carroll introduced Frank and Deb Iliff who shared through powerpoint the activities of Muscatine's Rebuilding Together Group led by Frank. Rebuilding Together was brought to Muscatine in 2007 joining205 affiliates across the United States, including Los Angeles, Des Moines, and Davenport. The organization receives corporate and private donations to build wheelchair ramps, bathtub renovations, placement of smoke detectors and generally any project that is needed to be rebuilt. The Rebuilding Day is once a year in the Spring. Volunteers work for 9 hours and receive a TShirt. The value back to the community and the rebuilding recipient is 4 to 1 or if you give $100 you receive a value of $400 . Buildings receiving support from this group have been The Flickinger Learning Center, Jessica's Closet and Franklin Elementary School Playground.
