Sarah Lande introduced our speaker and told how Governor Culver had appointed Jerry Schnoor to the Iowa Climate Changes Advisory Council
Professor Jerry Schnoor told the group many ways in which our environment has changed. Our carbon footprint increases 2 points per million each year and greenhouse gasses increase. Evidence is consistent that it is due to humans and the earth's warming is because of what we are doing. Our storms are more intense and winters are warmer and milder with 10 more frost-free days. Milder climate gives us more moisture with fewer really hot days. He talked about 56 ways to decrease our carbon footprint and how we need to invest in renewable energy. One of those recommendations being that every building should be energy efficient and depend more on the sun and the wind for energy. Green jobs will be the jobs of the future. Some areas include cellulosic biofuel, perennial crops, cellulosic ethanol, wind energy and solor. For more information go to www:Iowaclimatechange.us.

Barb Christiansen announced the Festival of Wreaths at the Art Center.
Rich Dwyer - Co-Chair of the Foundation Committee announced a recognition for Paul Harris Fellow.
John Stevens a WWII veteran, introduced Pam Ramer as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Mayor O'Brien presented her with a Rotary proclamation of Paul Harris Fellow and told about her community involvement and the wonderful tours she has spearheaded, putting together tours for WWII veterans to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington DC at no cost to the veteran. Gary Wieskamp also recognized Pam and told about taking his father Roman Pottof, on the first tour. Bob Toborg thanked Pam and talked about the 2nd trip at which time he was able to go to the monument. Jim Marshall also gave Pam thanked her and talked about his experiences. Jim went on a tour with a group from Missouri. Pam told that her father also was a WWII veteran, however he passed away before getting to see the memorial in Washington. Thank you, Pam!
