Rotary News: Jacob Schmelzer invited participation in the Candidates Symposium at MHS on May 16, 2014 from 9-11 in the Stan Howe Commons. Todd Poci asked Rotarians to bring documents or Rotary realia to Senior Resources front desk for collecting and sorting. Hours 8-4:30 daily M-F. Mike Ruby is leaving on a 5 week Rotary exchange to Australia and New Zealand. Jay Mc Kee asked that we be reminded of the 3.0 Luncheon Celebration next week.

Happy News: Marv Krieger is pleased to learn about Norm Smith being a fantastic runner winning the Drake Relays among other noted races. Marv also reminded us that getting married is among the best times in one's life. His grandson Ben was married over the weekend. Steve Jameson noted that we are in need of hosts for District 6000 inbound students. Doug Peterson also praised us for being such great Rotary Exchange Student participants.

Rotary Program: Trista Peitzman provided a very informative program on Iowa Public Television. Trista started out her career with IPTV as a teacher on loan and has now enjoyed 15 years with the state.  She however, grew up on Public Television in South Dakota enjoying Painting with Bob Ross, and programs such as This Old House.  She noted that IPTV is the most watched Public Television station in the entire nation.

The newest initiative is creating reading programming for preschoolers entitled "Ready to Learn, Ready for School". The station has also provided professional development for Child Care Providers to help them "Raise Readers". Trista also noted that Dan Wardell has provided programs throughout Iowa for over 96,000 children.  IPTV has given Musser Public Library free Ipads and has available smartphone apps.  Today she dropped off reading kits to Gentle Dental Clinic and Unity Public Health.  IPTV is highly involved in afterschool programming such as the Flickinger Learning Center.
