Guests for March 7, 2011: Sharon Bowers, Wilton Public Library, Paula Lofgren, Franklin,McKinley, Mulberry and Washington Elementary School Libraries, Bobby Fiedler, Musser Public Library, Beth Elshoff, Colorado, Grant, Madison and Jefferson Elementary School Libraries, Janelle Grammens, Muscatine High School Library, Nancy Luikart, Muscatine Community College, and Pam Collins,Rotarian and Musser Public Library.

President Elect, Mike Ruby told us that Tom Ward's mother in law had passed away and he was in Mississippi at the funeral.

Taura Prosek representing the Community Projects Committee made $100 gift presentations to each of the Muscatine School, Public Library, MCC and Wilton Public Librarians in honor of Rotary Literacy Month. Each librarian then explained how they planned to use the gift....for graphic novels, sneak peak title, and international literature.

Judi Holdorf reminded members that the next round of grant applications for the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine are due on Tuesday, March 15, 2011.

Steve Jameson's name, Publisher of the Muscatine Journal, was read for the second time.

Happy News: Scott Ingstad applauded the MHS Girls State Bowling Champs with Kudos to member and coach Brian Chapman. Karen Diercks was happy that her grandson had participated in the State Honors Orchestra, and her granddaughter was on the winning Y Swimming Relay Team. Bob Lande liked that Iowa had beaten Purdue. Anna Mack was happy to see spring coming in finding crocuses in her yard. Holly Peterson applauded the success of Muskie Swim Coach Judd Anderson and Mike Ruby was happy that he and Kelly Garvin will be participating in PETS (Rotary Training for Presidents) this week.

March 26th is coming.... get your bowling shoes on and roll for Rotary ....all money collected will support the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program!!!

Program: Musser Public Library Director, Pam Collins and Bobby Fiedler, Librarian provided a very informative program on the electronic services available through the MPL website: www.musserpubliclibrary.org.

They explained that PrarieCat is the very public online card catalog that has over 8 million items from 300 libraries that are internet accessible. They then discussed websites for children, teens and adults. Each group also has representation on the MPL Facebook pages.

Sites and resources for children are: Searchasaurus, Tumble Books and Tumble Readables.

Teens: Facebook page, the Student Research Center, Learning Express with support for ACT, SAT and GED Prep, as well as, Civil Service Test Prep and AP Test Prep.

Adults: Facebook page with 735 members, Mango Languages accessible from home with 5 different languages, Morning Star-Investments, Wilbor Downloadable ebooks that are free and can be checked out from anywhere that the internet is available. However, it is best to get the ebook set up first and the library will help you do this.

Chilton Auto Repair books are online, Home Improvement Reference Center and Novelist Plus... which finds books in order for someone who wants a certain type of book, ie romance or historic novel or wants to know what book preceeds or comes after a title.. and what else has this author written?

Lastly, they told us that the Grossheim Collection pictures will be printed at the River's Edge Gallery now and will hopefully be more accessible to individuals interested in prints.
