Guests for January 17, 2011: Dona Pearce, Stan Wapolf, Michelle Heller, Vitaliy Katsenelson were all guests of Jim Nepple, potential new members Anna Mack and Steve Jameson, Muscatine Journal Publisher were introduced.  Rusty Eaton was a guest of Brian Chapman. 

January 17, 2011 New Member Induction: Jane Caes, Vice President of Community Health for Trinity in Muscatine was inducted and sponsored by Mary Odell.

President Tom told us about a couple of new Rotary Club enhancements... we could decide to be a part of the Satellite Pilot which allows our club to conduct multiple club meetings during a week, each taking place at a different location, day and or time.

Tom also talked about Corporate Memberships which will allow a corporation or company in the club's area to become a member of the Rotary Club, through a club established membership approval process, and appoint a certain number of Designees as the individuals attending meetings, serving on projects, voting on club matters, serving as club officers and on club committees.

Let a Board Member know of your thoughts about these new pilot options!! We will need to decide by April 1, 2011 if we are going to be a pilot Rotary Club.

Member News: Kip Fisher fell and broke his leg last week. 

Program: Vitaliy Katsenelson author of Active Value Marketing and the Little Book of Sideways Markets discussed the roller coaster ride with the stock market over the last couple of years.  He explained his concept of a stagnant market as a sideways market being neither a bull nor bear market.

Another term for the sideways market in his terms is a cowardly lion...bursts of occasional bravery!!

Vitaliy suggested a different strategy for surviving the sideways market:  buy and sell, don't try to time the market, figure out what the stock is worth, buying what is undervalued and there is a lot of cash in the company...such as 30%.

Members were invited to the afternoon workshop being held by Jim Nepple at the Rendezvous at which Vitaliy would go into more extensive detail.
