Mike Ruby, acting President noted that February is World Understanding Month... he noted that Rotary International will celebrate our 106th Anniversary on February 23, and the Muscatine Club was begun in February of 1920.

Guest Night at the Muni: Don't miss the fun with fellow Rotarians and friends at the Municipal Golf Course Club House on Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 6-8 P.M.... play the new golf simulator...courses, eat Pizza and share a good time with your friends and fellow Rotarians. 

New Member Orientation is March 4, 2011 at 11:30 -1:00 P.M. at Sunnybrook Retirement Center with an included lunch.

Steve Jameson, Muscatine Journal Publisher, name was read for new member induction.

Brian Chapman invited members to participate on Rotary's Team for "Bowl for Kids Sake" supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters.  The goal is to raise $500 and to bowl on Saturday, March 26, 2011.

Reminder...committee working on the Muscatine Journal/Rotary Insert will meet immediately (after the meeting, February 14).

Kip Fisher thanked everyone for their support as friends and Rotarians in the loss of his wife, Mikki. 

Happy News: Jay McKee lauded the Muskie Swim Team for being #1 in the State. Keith Porter lauded the MHS Choir, River City Rhythm, Encore, all for great successes at finals and the Muskie Band for their super showing also. 

Scott Ingstad applauded Coach Judd Anderson for his 47 year long very successful stint as Muskie Swim Coach.

Ron Yohe thanked fellow Rotarians for the thoughts, and cards during the loss of his mother.  He also happily mentioned his 46th Wedding Anniversary!!

Charlie Lewis chimed in with his cheers for theMuskie Swim Team adding a dollar for his son and his daughter as Muskie Swimmers

Program: Sarah Lande introduced Jeanette Pilak, Executive Director of the Unesco City of Literature Progam.  Iowa City is only the 3rd city in the WORLD in this great literacy initiative. She provided a very informative program about the role of Iowa City in the project and the specific programs that are happening in Iowa City. 

April 23, 2011 will be Unesco World Book and Copyright Day... be sure and recommend books for your friends to read. (website: www:cityofliteratureusa.org ) Second is the focus of the Hawkeye Readers... Football Players that read to students and with them in the Iowa City Schools.
