President Tom talked about the Rotary's International Exchange Program for Rotarians and their families.  Participants experience other cultures and build friendships by staying in the homes of Rotary club members in another country.  Rotary Friendship Exchanges are District to District.   The trip to Southern British Columbia, Canada in August and September is already full.  Sarah Lande will be going to South Africa the first 3 weeks of October.  There are also trips to New Zealand March 18 to April 11 and a trip to England in September which are still open.  Sign up if you are interested.

Happy News

Keith Porter announced that Tom made the plate with no problem and all are challenged to give $1 to polio plus for this accomplishment.   Tom said he had been practicing throwing around black walnuts to practice his pitching abilities.

Program

Scott Natvig introduced Erica Henderson, who just got back from a short-term Rotary Youth Exchange to Spain.  Erica also introduced Andrea Dominquez who was a member of her host family and has returned with her to the states.   Erica thanked everyone for helping her to have this life-changing experience and she has memories to last her a lifetime.

First, Erica explained that when you are a high school student in Spain you have to chose one of three tracs when you enter high school.  She was able to go to school with Andrea and talked about all the friends she made.

She was able to attend one Rotary meeting.  This meeting was during the World Cup and Rotary members would check in on the game periodically.  Erica was able to attend a medieval fair, parties/dinners, palaces, museums, castles, fountains, and cathedrals.  Teens still do the same things in each country  (bowling, movies, zoos, miniature golf).

Erica also learned a very important thing, "Don't tell me what it is until after I eat it."

She was able to share some American recipies like chocolate chip cookies and apple pie with her hosts.  Again, Erica was most appreciative and thanks the Rotary club profusely.
