ROTARY GUEST NIGHT LOOMS EVER CLOSER!
Get ready for our special "Guest Night." It's going to be a reprise of last year's venture to New Era Church. The show is "Hot Mikado" on Thursday, May 22. Dinner is chicken breast, parsley potatoes, a green vegetable, salad, rolls, dessert and a beverage. Pricing is on the brochures on each table. This is a FAMILY APPROPRIATE show so you can bring your children and grandchildren. The Trolley can take you from the Holiday Inn to the church if you like at no extra charge. ---- By the way, "The Mikado" by Gilbert and Sullivan (this is the same show with some more modern music) is one of the funniest shows Gilbert and Sullivan wrote.

Domestic Violence Rape Sexual Assault Program Our presenters are from Family Resources, Inc. They are: Dawn Sturms, Regional Coordinator of Muscatine, and Rachel Riley-Smock, Program Coordinator of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault.
LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM
Muscatine County Needs Assessment. The presenters were Becky Furlong (Curriculum Director of Muscatine Community School District), Mike Johannsen (Community Services Director of Muscatine County Community Services), and Sharon Gibson-Ellis (Chief Professional Officer of United Way of Muscatine, Inc.). These three groups, along with a couple of other partners in town, choked up the money to conduct a community needs assessent. The first part was some "data mining" by staff from Iowa State University. The next part is assessment. Mike told the story of a recent trip he took to Washington, D.C., where he visited the National Archives. While there, he saw a letter sent by Fidel Castro to President Roosevelt, asking for $10 to help change things in Cuba. Mike asked, what would have happened if FDR had written Fidel and helped him make his changes. Mike's point was that it's not the information that's important. It's what we DO with it that matters. He and the other presenters hope will will take some effective action with the information we get from the community needs assessment.

HAPPY NEWS
Roger Lande was happy. At first, it sounded like Roger was really happy that his wife was going out of town, but he covered his tracks pretty well when he said Sarah was going to see their kids who live in Holland and who were spotlighted by Gil Dietz. Cool move, Roger.
Becky Furlong was happy to tell us about a fabulous drama department production she saw ("Crazy for You"). She said it was the best high school production she's seen in years.
Today's Rotary Moment - It is easy to see why Rotary has made such a commitment to youth for most of its first 100 years. It reaches out to care for children who are sick, disabled, hungry or forgotten. Rotary provides encouragement through mentoring and scholarships to tens of thousands of teenagers and young adults. And it walks hand in hand along the pathway of service with youth in Interact and Youth Exchange and young adults in Rotaract. Rotarians have lived out their slogan of more than 50 years: Every Rotarian an Example to youth. They have demonstrated that one of the best investments of their time and resources, is in the generation that will lead the world tomorrow.
