Barth is a lifelong resident of Muscatine with 20 years in the career field of IT.
In 2022, Barth began running his IT consulting company full-time specializing in cybersecurity assessments and advanced building/workplace security systems.
The project: Deploy an advanced hybrid-cloud video surveillance system to: Enhance Public Safety, Reduce Crime, Reduce Vandalism, and Save Time Through Advanced Tools. The project was developed during the Leadership Muscatine brainstorming process.
Muscatine Parks and Rec has a goal to provide a better park experience and reduce vandalism and needs a more efficient way for the Muscatine Public Safety Agencies to monitor selected park sites.
The project was coordinated closely with Erika Cox from Muscatine Power and Water and Steve Snider from the Muscatine Police Department. MPW was eager to participate, as the project aligned with their goal of providing a safe place to live, work, and play. The police department secured a state grant to install cameras, enhancing community safety. The first focus area is the Riverfront, which has seen a gradual increase in crime and calls for service—rising from 115 calls in 2019 to 254 calls in 2023.
