Presentation-
Leadership Muscatine- Moriah Ellis (Community Foundation) & Mason Kruse (HNI)

Extracurricular activities have a positive impact on students. Transportation to and from activities can be difficult.
Project problem statement: An absence of transportation options to and from extracurricular activities has cascading impacts on student’s lives and futures, especially low-income middle school students.
Missing extracurricular activities have an emotional, mental, and academic impact on students, leading to a long-term impact on graduation, income, and housing.
Transportation is particularly an issue for middle school students who cannot yet drive and do not qualify for some elementary transportation programs. Current “band-aid” fixes- Coaches and teachers, teen programs at the YMCA, other parents and siblings. These solutions still leave gaps.
Potential solutions from other communities: Leverage existing transportation (coordinated rideshare), late school bus routes, and a safe place to wait. Work continues to find the right fit for our community.
