The Xicotepac project is a project of the Rotary Club of Xicotepec and Rotary District 6000. The first connection with the Xicotepec Rotary Club happened in 2001. The first visit of 6 Rotarians followed in 2002. The trip quickly grew to a 49-person project team in 2003.
Since then more than 1,000 project team members have made the trip to Xicotepec. The trip follows an annual cycle starting with applications from mid-September to mid-November, payment collection in January, and Training in February. The trip happens over Spring Break for the University of Iowa. The all-inclusive trip costs $2050/person and includes lodging and meals for 7 days.
Annual projects include deworming school children, dental health checks and oral hygiene promotion, water purification, domestic violence prevention, and school improvement projects. There are opportunities for everyone regardless of skill level.
