Presentation:
Stanley Center for Peace and Security Living Building Project-
Mark Seaman, VP, and Director of Communications
Krista Regennitter, Program Officer for Global Education

Max and Betty Stanley Established the Stanley Foundation in 1956. There was no hesitation when deciding on Muscatine for the Stanley Center Headquarters. The Living Building Challenge encompassed the Staley Center’s mission to catalyze just and sustainable solutions to critical issues of peace and security by driving policy progress, advancing effective global governance, and advocating for collective action.
The Living Building has 6 petals:
Place- Restoring a healthy relationship between nature, place, and community.
Water- Creating developments that operate within the water balance of a given place and climate.
            Energy- Relying on renewable resources.
Health and Happiness- Fostering environments that optimize physical and psychological health and well-being.
Materials- Building with products that are safe for all species through time.
Equity- Supporting a just, equitable world.
Beauty and Design- Celebrating design that uplifts the human spirit.
The project challenged the design team, contractors, and community partners to collaborate for innovative solutions. The challenge is being met through 105% solar energy, rainwater capture, windows and light, material sourcing, gardens, exercise, and universal access.
Once completed, this project will be the 2nd Living Building remodel in the entire world. Learn more about the Stanley Center of Peace and Security and the Living Building Challenge on their website, https://stanleycenter.org/.
