Community Event:
  • We are looking for 2 more Volunteers for the 3:30-6:00 pm shift for Almost Friday Fest this Thursday, June 23. This summer, we are teaming up with HyVee as a food vendor for each Almost Friday Fest.  We will need 3-4 Volunteers to help at each event from 3:30-8:30 pm. We will split the event into two shifts- 3:30-6 and 6-8:30. The Rotary Club will share in the proceeds from food sales.
  • Check your calendar for availability to help serve as a Block Captain for the GMCCI 4th of July Parade. Block Captains assist in lining up parade floats from 2-5:30 pm.
  • We have 2 board positions available on the 1st of July. Please see Naomi for more information.
Club Announcement:
  • In response to the war in Ukraine, our Rotary Club has decided to contribute $1000 toward Rotary International support efforts.  We ask club members to consider a donation to match this contribution. We cannot become complacent about the devastation that continues.
  • Presentation of Paul Harris +1 pin for Erika Cox. The Paul Harris Fellow recognizes contributions to the Rotary Foundation of $1000. By receiving her Paul Harris +1, Erika is recognized for her second donation of $1000. This is a prestigious recognition, and we Thank Erika for her commitment to Rotary.

Presentation:
Brenda Christianson and Chris Boar- Keep Muscatine Beautiful
The mission of Keep Muscatine Beautiful is to engage Muscatine and surrounding county residents to take greater responsibility for improving their community environment and enhancing their community. Keep Muscatine Beautiful was started as a Leadership Muscatine project in 2008. From 2009 to 2012, the committee held community clean-up days and Earth Day celebrations to care for the Muscatine community. From 2014 to 2016, The group hosted the Healthy Living Festival, which included activities on the Riverfront and at Weed Park. The group took a hiatus from the festivals during the riverfront construction project and returned in 2019 with Almost Friday Fest. Like everything in 2020, the Almost Friday Fest events were put on hold and returned in late 2021.
The current project focus for Keep Muscatine Beautiful is a riverfront Amphitheater. The Amphitheater renderings include a staging base with two areas, one geared towards smaller events or community shows like weddings and dance recitals and a second Main stage area for larger band productions. An artistic canopy modeled after the river waves provides stage cover. The area’s goal is to serve as an accessible facility anyone in the community can use and a larger venue to host events and attract visitors to Muscatine.
