Larry Hetzler- Symphony Orchestra MasterWorks III: “Silky Smooth,” with singer Jason Richards and the Josh Duffee Big Band February 12, 2022 @ 7:00 PM. Micah Colbert- The Ag Seminar last week hosted by Lee Insurance was a successful event. Mike Ruby- Starting July 1st he will be starting on the Assistant Governor(AG) Coordinator working with the AGs in our Rotary area including Muscatine, Tipton, West Liberty and Clinton. Greg Bock- Update of Red Kettle Campaign raised $239K+. Matt Shaffer (Speaker)- Excited to be out in public again on behalf of the Hoover Museum. Lindsey Phillips- Bowl for Kids Sake is Big Brother, Big Sister’s largest fundraiser and is returning March 26th, after a 2 year COVID hiatus. Megan Francis- New baby niece this morning at about 10:30am. Mom and baby are doing well.

Fundraising: Last call for Super Bowl squares. Thank you to all who participated. Squares will be drawn at Random and sent out Prior to the Super Bowl. Watch the Super Bowl and know that you have supported the projects of the Rotary Club of Muscatine.
Reminder: A few weeks ago Mike Ruby extended a challenge to match up to $500 in donations made to Rebuild Together Muscatine County. You can make a donation to Rebuild Together through our club or report an individual donation to the club and we will track the donations and report when the match is met.
Announcements:
There is a Grant Seminar on Feb 26th in West Liberty and our very own Kim Warren will be presenting on the Heart Rate Monitor grant that we wrote to assist the high School. Traditionally we need a member of our club to attend the seminar to be able to apply for district grants so please let John or board member know if you are available and interested.

Matt Shaffer- Hoover Museum

Program-
Matt has been with the Hoover Library for 20 years. The Library is part of the presidential library system. There are 15 libraries, Hoover being the first one chronologically continuing through Obama and soon Trump. The mission of the library is to preserve the documents of the presidency. Presidential Library was started by Roosevelt who felt there were more important documents being created than would fit in the archives. Roosevelt donated the land and coordinated the construction of his presidential library and upon his death all his presidential documents were donated to the library. Truman’s documents remained in storage until Congress decided they will fund the staff and operations of the library but the building will need to be with philanthropic dollars. That is the pattern that is followed today, all libraries are public/private partnerships.
After returning from Versailles and WW1 and seeing important documentation being destroyed Hoover decided, on his own dime, to create the Hoover Institute on War, revolution and peace, at Stanford in CA. in 1950 Hoover and Stanford got cross wires about who would run the institution and Hoover decided to move all his presidential papers to West Branch.
