Happy News/Announcements:  Mark Roberts: Granddaughter a sophomore in college and has always been a soccer player.  Talked to the Football coach about being a kicker and kicked the winning field goal this past weekend. Naomi DeWinter: Excited for the Flag Planting Service project Friday.  This morning a group of 4th and 5th grade students started the flag planting and then took a tour of the new construction. Larry Hetzler: Muscatine Symphony Orchestra: MasterWorksII: “Elegant Prowess,” featuring international virtuoso violinist Sirena Huang. November 13, 2021 @ 7:00 PM. Mark you calendar for 20th Anniversary Celebration Event January 7 2022. Megan Francis: Be sure to get our and Vote, Nov. 2nd.
 
Club Announcements: Upcoming Service Project: We have been asked by MCC to assist in planting 1000 flags in honor of Veterans Day.  We are inviting Club members to join together at MCC Friday Nov 5th at 4pm to help in planting 400 of the flags.  We will them get together at HyVee Market Grille following the flag planting for fellowship time and to welcome our new members following their club orientation. November Fundraising Project: Operation Warm Coats- We will collect funds for the month of November to purchase warm coats for children in need right here in Muscatine.  At the next 4 meetings we will have a coat displayed and we ask members to clip donations to the coat.  Each coat costs $17 and must be purchased in boxes of 12 coats, our goal is at least $612 to purchase 3 boxes of coats. If you would like to arrange a donation outside of a regular meeting please contact Megan Francis at mfrancis@muscatinevision2020.org.  Membership- Rotary has a goal to grow membership for the Rotary Year- our club currently has 65 members. The membership promotion is referred to as “Each One Bring One” For the month of November we are asking each member to bring a guest to at least one meeting to introduce them to the club.  All guests will be free for the month, and potential members always receive a free meal. For each guest a member brings to a meeting they will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card.

Kandy Steel- Principal of Jefferson Elementary School has more than 30 years education experience between Colorado and Iowa. Kandy has experience in a number of different roles including a Middle School Principal that was awarded Blue Ribbon Status for their academic progress and positive culture and climate.
Corry Spies- Corry has served in a number of academic positions for nearly 24 years. Graduated form Univ. of Iowa with a degree in Education.  Also Enjoys coaching track and volleyball. In the past 11 years has served as principal at a number of Muscatine schools and currently serves as principal of Franklin.
 
Program: Muskie SPARK Summer program
The goal of the SPARK program was to give students an opportunity to accelerate their learning through a variety of enriching experiences and activities. The Day was comprised of academics in the morning and hands on enrichment in the afternoon. 358 students were enrolled in the SPARK program. 86 students had perfect attendance! This was 24% of the total enrollment and this exceeds typical attendance patterns.  Buses offered transportation from locations throughout town to get students to Jefferson and kids were excited to get on the bus for SPARK each day.
Student Feedback: 86% of student responses indicated they would return to SPARK- some asking already. 86% of student responses said SPARK improved Reading skills, and 88% said SPARK improved Math skills.  Parent feed back even higher with 97% stating they would send their child again, 87% stating improved skills in Reading and 92% saw increase in child’s Math skills.
Community Partners included: AIM, MCC, Library, Muscatine County Conservation Center, and more.  Great community effort.  Looking to grow the program for next year.
