Happy News:  Mike Ruby let us know of an article in the Quad Cities Times of 2 Rotarians from Iowa City that are traveling around the world to raise money to fight polio and the Gates Foundation will match what they raise.  Megan Francis reminded us that Wednesday is lunch for a cause at Sunnybrook.  $8 per meal - eat in or take out.  100% raised goes to the cause.  Next months lunch for a cause will go towards Rotary in honor of our 100 year celebration.

Program:  Our program was Andrew Sherburne from FilmScene and Katie Roche from the Englert Theatre in Iowa City.  Andrew is a documentary film maker and founder of FilmScene.  FilmScene is the only non-profit cinema in Iowa that runs 365 days a year.  Non-profit cinema means that they are not motivated by money when choosing what films to show - they choose based on the films themselves, culture, etc.  Katie Roche is the Development Director for the Englert Theatre in Iowa City.  The Englert is 107 years old and hosts community events, cultural shows, films and more.  FilmScene and the Englert have collaborated  to inspire, educate and entertain.  300 films were shown on 2 screens in 2019.  Home for new films, shorts, classics, educating, filmmakers and home for all.  They hold 2 camps for kids over the summer.  Their collaboration is to build the greatest small city for the arts in America - through arts, access, and advocacy.  In 2019 they hosted over 170 events, had over 100,000 patrons, and brought over $3 million to the Iowa City economy.  They are raising money to expand.  Thank you Andrew and Katie.

Our next meeting will be Monday, January 13, 2020 at the Rendezvous at noon.
