Recap of February 25, 2019 Club Meeting:

Happy News:  Mike Frye enjoyed piano recitals for two of his grandchildren and 20 plus others at Sunnybrook on Sunday!!
 
Club Business:  Jessica Wittman noted that we are $1400 shy of the amount needed to achieve our matching grant for benches at the Dog Park and Trails.  She also noted that we still have time to support the Imagination Library.   If interested, there is an opportunity to join the Rotary Board in July.  Step up if you have an interest in leading our Rotary Club!!
 
Program:  Jerry Riibe presented an informative program on the changes occurring in the Muscatine Community School District in the next couple of years.
  • 2019-2020 6th  grade returns to the elementary schools (  (5) Franklin, McKinley, Mulberry, Jefferson and Madison)
  • 2019-2020  7th and 8th grade at 2 sites, West and Central Middle Schools
  • 2020-2021  Central Middle School closes and all 7th and 8th grade students attend West Middle School.
  • 2020-20121 Central Auditorium and Gym preserved for continued use.
  • 2019-2020   Muskie Early Learning Center opens at the former Colorado Elementary School for 4 year old preschool and 3 year old Special Education preschoolers.
  • January 2020 completion of the enhancement of McKinley Elementary School Bus pickup area, new gym and classrooms.  $4.5 million dollar project.
  • 2019-2020   3 Elementary Schools will have about 500 students each ( Mc Kinley, Madison and Jefferson)
  • 2019-2020    MHS STEM Science Wing added at the front of the building by the Gymnasium  $8.5 million dollar project.
  • 2018              Chuck Van Hecke Center at MHS opened adding 2 new gyms!!
  • Spring 2019   Special Commercials at the Palms about the academics and activities at MHS.
  • Other important facts you want to know and share!!  Muscatine Community School District has 5th grade Pre AP Offerings, AP tests are paid for by the school district,  our orchestra program is one of the strongest and is the largest in the state, we have collaborated with the community to add Mental Health Counselors to support families and students.  We are financially and fiscally strong!!
