Program:  Diana Broderson spoke to us about Child Abuse Prevention.  Diana is the Director of Family Programs at the Muscatine YMCA, as well as our Mayor.  Child abuse prevention in Muscatine County is a 3 tier approach.  1) Prevent Child abuse in Iowa.  2) Muscatine County CARES - Child Abuse Response and Education Systems.  3) Family Program Services at YMCA.    There are 5 factors that strengthen a child's environment.  They are nurturing and attachments, parenting knowledge, parental resilience, social connections, and concrete supports.   Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) shape a child.  They are - emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, divorce, mental health, and more...  12.9% of people in Muscatine have had 1 or more ACE's happen to them.  People who have had 4 or more ACE's tend to experience health problems.   She shared ways we can volunteer to help prevent child abuse.  Thank you Diana.
