Club News and Happy News:  Nathan Mather is a proud new Dad with the birth of Benjamin Elwood and then Nathan had to get a reaction to his longterm medication!! Naomi De Winter is happy that MCC is starting today.. this is the anniversary of Naomi's first year here!! Mike Ruby is published in the Rotarian!! Kudos Mike!! Janet Morrow is a proud mom of a son starting MHS!!  Judi reminded us of the Rotary Board Meeting today!!  Also last call to sign up for a committee or your assignment will becoming!! Committees are: Club Service - Jessica Wittman, Member Service- Bobbi Holliday, Vocational Service- Todd Poci, Service to Humanity - Rick Gosney, Community Service - Shane Orr and Youth Service - Erika Cox.
 
 
Program:  Kristine Bullock representing the Iowa Governor's STEM Advisory Council stressed the importance of recruiting students to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  By 2018 our country will need 5 million more persons to fill the 8 million related jobs.  The Iowa Governor's Council started in 2008 to address this need.  The Council's goals are:
  • Equip schools with materials to support teachers and students.
  • Strengthen Business and School Partnerships
  • Create awareness of the job potential for parents and families!!
Muscatine has been supportive with STEM Internships in Industry..ie. Taylor Fountain at HNI.
Emphasis is being placed on creating more awareness to all but also girls, minorities and those in poverty!!
