Program: Alan Ostergren introduced Judge Gary Strauser who oversees Muscatine's juvenile court and crime cases. Gary has held this position for the last 10 and half years.  Half of his time is spend on criminal cases and the other on juvenile court issues.  Last year there were 80 cases relating to termination of parental rights.  Gary tries to return the children to their family if at all possible.  There are  a total of over 11,000 casesvreviewed annually in Muscatine County.  Unfortunately, a lot of the cases revolve around the same families from year to year.  Prescription drugs are the drug of choice for youth today.  Drugs are traded and also used.  Gary told us to beware of the upcoming issues with the shortage in the Juvenile Justice System budget and fully anticipates layoffs and furloughs in the next budget year.
