Program:  Chris Steinbach introduced Jamie Hopkins and the staff of KWPC radio. Staff present were Tom Brehmer,Millie Morris, Tony Tone and Tim Scott.  The purpose of the radio is to educate and inform. Every 8 years the station must reup their license with the FCC.  College Radio stations are smaller than KWPC. The reach of our station is 30 miles. This is good because it means the station will never be gobbled up by some other station.
Jamie emphasized that the smallness is a strength and a weakness.  Tim Scott shared the evolution of the local radio station indicating that Norman Baker and KTNT was prior to our radio station. Rotarians, local business person and local government helped establish the current radio station in January of 1947 with George Volger spearheading the effort.  Radio has not changed much in the 1970's.  In the 80"s John Schwandke and John Flambeau ran the station.  The current owner is Wayne Wayland who liked the radio business model of
community oriented service. Jamie shared a brief powerpoint that presented local involvement of the radio station in the Muscatine community.
