Happy News/Announcements:  All Happy News donations support Rotary scholarships.
  • Mark Roberts – His granddaughter was named to the All-State team for Division III football and will go to the Sugar Bowl. She is the first woman to receive this recognition.
  • Marc Hines – Marc cut his hair as promised for the Crossroads fundraiser. The ‘Joe Dirt’ hairstyle won the vote.
Voluntell: Volunteer Hours & Opportunities
Volunteer Hours Reported:
  • Kim Waren – 1.5 hours – Orchestra
  • Shane Orr – 2 hours – Voter registration for the League of Women Voters
  • Mike Wedell – 4 hours total – 2 hours Genealogy and 2 hours monarch tagging
  • In-meeting service project – 12.5 hours total: .5 hour for each member who donated and helped package diapers.
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities:
  • Mike Ruby – The Jesus Mission needs sleeping bags. If you have gently used sleeping bags to donate, please bring them to the September 28 or October 5 Rotary meetings.
  • Highway Cleanup- Mark your calendar for the morning of October 9.
  • Native Prairie Seed Collection – Mark your calendar for Friday, October 16, from 1-4 p.m. Registration will be available soon. Plan to wear closed-toed shoes, long sleeves and pants, and bring bug spray.
  • Ongoing opportunities with The Bridge, Junior Achievement, and Flickinger Center.

  • Membership update: Barth Donald has resigned from the club.
  • Please consider supporting the Rotary Foundation, which funds both local and international service projects. Contributions may be made by ACH or check. Please contact Lindsey for more information. Thank you for your impact through Rotary membership and giving.
  • We are currently accepting donations to purchase a tree in honor of Marv Krieger. Please see Lindsey if you would like to contribute.

In-Meeting Club Service Project-
 
In honor of National Diaper Need Awareness Week, our club collected and packaged 2,284 diapers to support the Muscatine Diaper Bank!
 
The United Way shared a brief presentation about diaper need in our community before members got to work packaging donations.
 
Nearly 1 in 2 U.S. families with young children experience diaper need, meaning they do not have an adequate supply of diapers to keep their child clean, dry, and healthy. Diaper need can affect a child's health while also creating additional stress and barriers to childcare and employment for parents.
 
United Way manages the Muscatine Diaper Bank, with families referred for assistance through local partners including Trinity Muscatine Public Health, LSI Hopes, MCSD Parents as Teachers, and MCSA. Diapers are packaged by size in bundles of 25 and are intended to provide supplemental assistance to help families get by.
 
Thank you to everyone who donated diapers and helped package them during our meeting. Collecting and packaging 2,284 diapers is a great example of Service Above Self in action!
