Presentation:
Dr. Chandra from the Haiti Eye Clinic through the Global Eye Project
Dr. Chandra is an optometrist who lives in New York but spends several months each year volunteering in Haiti. After learning that people in the community had virtually no access to eye care, she committed herself to establishing and growing a local eye clinic. Dr. Chandra took members through the journey from the clinic’s first day to the care provided today by a locally trained team.
The clinic now screens for and treats conditions such as glaucoma and complications from diabetes that can often be managed with proper care but, when left untreated, can result in blindness. Dr. Chandra’s presentation highlighted the incredible impact that access to basic eye care and locally trained providers can have on an entire community.
