Kendall Emmert- The Bridge
The Bridge is a nonprofit organization founded by Kendall and Andy Emmert after their experience helping an at-risk student navigate community resources in 2018 opened their eyes to the needs facing local teens. Today, The Bridge provides a safe and welcoming space for high school students to gather for food, fun, and friendship while serving as a bridge to trusted resources in the community. The group meets twice a week during the summer at the Wesley Family Life Center, where teens receive a meal and can take part in organized activities or enjoy an open space to hang out. The program also provides hygiene items and other supplies and celebrates birthdays, milestones, and graduations. The Bridge community has grown to 50–60 students, with an average weekly attendance of 35–45 teens. A Teen Board meets monthly to share ideas and help guide the program, while adult mentors provide ongoing encouragement and support. In the first year and a half, eight volunteers have contributed more than 1,024 hours of service. All programs are offered free of charge thanks to financial and in-kind donations. A fund is available through the Community Foundation for those interested in supporting The Bridge. Follow The Bridge on Instagram (thebridge.muscatine) and Facebook (The Bridge Muscatine).
