Muscatine County Habitat for Humanity shared updates on its mission to provide stable, affordable housing opportunities in the community through partnerships, volunteers, and sweat equity from participating families. Habitat homes cost approximately $180,000 to build, with homes sold to families based on what they can afford. Partner families are also required to contribute “sweat equity,” which may include construction work, community involvement, fundraising, and learning home maintenance skills. Every project depends on hometown volunteers and community support. Habitat also highlighted its Age in Place partnership with Rebuild Together Muscatine County, which assists seniors and veterans with needed home repairs. Current efforts include a new home project in Wilton in partnership with Homes for Iowa. The home will arrive approximately 85% complete, with volunteers helping finish the project after its expected delivery in August or September. Members were also encouraged to save the date for the Habitat Masquerade Ball on October 24.
