Happy News/Announcements:  Sarah Lande- Happy Shelley's Market is out at corner of 61 and Grandview, they have wonderful produce. Frank Iliff- Will be driving the Harper Cycling Van during Ragbrai next week.  Erika Cox- Encourages everyone to attend Almost Friday Fest on Thursday on the riverfront and stop by the MPW tent for information on Electric Vehicles and for a ride in EV. Mike Wedell- is happy his daughter got engaged, no wedding date yet. Michelle Kelman- encourages everyone to sign up for the Walk to End Alzheimer's on September 24th, and this Wednesday from 10-10:30am Join us to learn more about Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association® and how you can connect with colleagues while advancing the cause by starting a company team. Club Business: Thanksgiving in July Service Project- the last week of July the United Way is holding a Thanksgiving in July Food Drive for our community food Pantries. We are looking for volunteers to sign up to collect food bags at HyVee in one hour shifts from 9-1 on July 31st and a few volunteers to help us unload and sort food at Crossroads from 9-12 on Monday August 2nd. Megan Francis will send out an email requesting volunteers so please check your calendars and coordinate a time to help. Rob Yant- Vocational Services Chair passed out a Club Programming Survey to get suggestions on future programs.  Please take a few minutes to fill that out in the next week or two and email it back to Rob or bring it to a future meeting.  Thank you
 
Program:  New Career Academies with MCC- Jeremy Pickard & Dr. Naomi DeWinter
MCC Career Academies start a with a partnership bringing 6 school districts together, including Muscatine High School. Academies serve as a pathway to credentials.  Students can begin the career academies in their last years of High School with many earning a certificate or diploma from college, allowing them to start a career. Student support right in the High School to help with get connected to programs and assist with transition from High School to College. K12 schools receive additional weighted funding for these programs. First career academy was Manufacturing that started in 2016 and how now grown to 7 academies. Residents approved the bond referendum for new Career and Technical Education labs and facilities and expansion of existing classroom buildings to support EICC’s Career and Technical Education programs, and Career Academies for high school students in March of 2020. New Academies to be offered will include: Automotive Technology, Construction Tech, Allied Health/Nursing, Expand Welding program and Criminal Justice. Career Academies were structured with the support from the High Schools but the programs will be available to adult learners as well.
